Transgender Awareness
This observance is more important than ever
This is Transgender Awareness week and I want to hold the need for transgender awareness (at the very least) and respect for the humanity of transgender people up as important, especially in the present climate. This morning’s Daily podcast from the NYTimes is an especially powerful tribute to the pain facing parents of transgender children.

It’s also worth reading this biographical sketch of the noted writer and traveler Jan Morris, one of the earliest people to transition from one gender to another, by Elodie Barnes in Literary Ladies Guide, a site well-stocked with fascinating information about “classic women writers and their work.”

Hi Lynne! Thank you for the shout out to Literary Ladies Guide. And for the tribute to parents (which I am) of transgender offspring. I found the article about passports in the NYTimes so upsetting that I had a headache all day, so I'm not sure I can handle this broadcast, but I'd urge others to listen. It's devastating how this government has decided to pick on one of the most oppressed communities and causing real hardship.
